A steaming cup of tea, and a good book. 9 ¾ Bookstore + café, in Envigado, Colombia, offers up this perfect combination. The bookstore was specifically designed for children, and offers tiny tables for colouring, an indoor playground for climbing, playing, and curling up to read in the center of the space. 9 ¾ is perfect for adults as well, where they can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the outside world to enjoy a warm beverage. PlasmaNodo studio designed 9 ¾, which from the beginning, was never intended to be a simple bookstore and café. It was not intended to be a simple book retailer either.

The owner wants to diffuse culture by providing reading for every age, and holds classes in the space as well. The witty intuition of 9 ¾ can be summed up in its architects following words; “We believe in imagination, in magic, in dreams, in memories. We believe that the best ideas and conversations come easily with a good cup of coffee. We know that technology can be the magic wand to enter unimaginable worlds but it will never dethrone the King: the book”.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
