This year, the annual “African Fashion Reception” was held in Addis Abeba, the regal home to the African Union. This is the first time that the event, organized by Lexy Mojo Eyes, has been held in Africa. The final runway show featured designers hailing from various African countries, and the clothing revealed how African fashion can meld colourful traditional fabrics with European styles. Tribal accents were prevalent, often in the form of ornamental beading. The collections had the mark of a young, creative generation, mostly female, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. The bold, contemporary African styles captured the genius loci while remaining global.
