Curated by Germano Celant, staged by Italo Rota, the exhibition Arts & Food recounts, in the display areas of the Triennale, with works, sculptures, paintings and photographs, with installations and philological reconstruction, the relationship between art and food. The visit, a marathon by any account, requires at least four hours. The end of the visit leaves one feeling satisfied and amazed. The variety of works and artefacts is impressive: from the Surrealists to the Futurists, from the Impressionists to pop art, the wire-mesh igloo by Mario Merz, covered with slices of bread, to the dress with applied fried eggs design by Cinzia Ruggeri. These works continue in their variety with a dress with watermelon print by Ken Scott, Hindus little altar with offerings, from Fortunato Depero to Giacomo Balla, from blue Bread by René Magritte to l’Oeuf plat by Man Ray; Scatole d’amore in
conserva by Giorgio Marinetti to Les Brioches by Giorgio De Chirico … from Andy Warhol to Claes Oldenburg. So onto the toy kitchens, the opulent dining table of Gabriele D’Annunzio at the Vittoriale, the reconstruction of the spartan kitchen of Jean Prouvé in the Maison des Jours Meilleurs ….. From cutlery carved in the form of those carved by cannibals, the snack basket in perforated plastic by Guzzini. And then movies, pictures, posters, books and cooking magazines, reconstructions of dining rooms in liberty style, bar counters with historic Cimbali espresso machines …a must to be visited.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
