A nightclub has to be daring and know how to surprise. Cake Nightclub’s atmosphere, in San Diego, leaves jaws on the floor. Cake Nightclub is located in the historical Gas Light District, founded as an industrial area in the 1900’s and currently known for entertainment and shopping. The nightclub brings both a romantic and transgressive interior; it was designed by the Davis Ink studio, who are specialized in dance clubs and known for their exceptional work in all of California. The team wanted to focus on something romantic and chose to recreate a French castle theme.
Crystal chandeliers, baroque decor, mouldings and reserved areas with welcoming booths and luxurious marble tables are all the perfect backdrop for an evening filled with music and the “Cake Dolls”, the nightclub’s dancers. Unconventional details have been added to the mix, including a wall of pink poodles and neon sign that greet everyone at the door. The threshold is the ultimate surprise, considering that the outdoor, blue and white dehor does not let on that inside there is a blaze of gold, mirrors and noble, ghostly portraits.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
