Heads in the flowers

Prada started it, when they asked Oma studio to design the scenography for their runway shows. One season later, Sportmax entrusted the young, experimental duo Formafantasma with the layout of their Fall/Winter 2016-2017 collection. The Italian artist-designers are currently based in Amsterdam. Andrea Trimarchi (1983) and Simone Farresin (1980) were inspired by Giotto’s pastel architecture when creating the set for the runway show. The runway was furnished with simple shapes in classic colours, including Pompeii red and sand, that transformed it into an artistic landscape. The experiment was a radical change to the typically aseptic presentation of fashion. By placing the context design in the hands of creatives that do not work in the fashion world, the collections lose their expected ephemerality and come closer to artistic production. In parallel, placing a garment in a designed space make it more credible. These examples of collaboration between fashion and design demonstrate that there is no separation in the arts.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
