To pay tribute to Pierre Jouet’s limited edition champagne bottle, “Small Discoveries”, inspired by the insect world, the Austrian design couple Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler was commissioned to create an installation. During London Design week in September 2015, the duo hung 250 large, crystal light bulbs made by the historic Viennese company, Lobmeyr, in the Norfolk room of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Each contained an artificial insect that thanks to a system of sensors, responded to human presence by fluttering inside the glass ball, evoking the same tinkling sound of effervescent champagne bubbles. The collaboration between the historic French Champagne brand and design dates back to Art Nouveau. In 1902, Emile Gallé designed the famous “Belle Epoque”, decorated in embossed anemones. “Today, as before”, explains Axelle de Buffevent, style director di Perrier Jouet, “we promote the work of young artists. Mischer and Traxler charm with their ability to transform inspiration taken from nature into visual and acoustic special effects.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
