Tree of Life
22 December 2016
28 December 2015
From Novembre, 2015 to the beginning of April, 2016, MAD New York will host Ebony G. Patterson’s work. The artist, who lives between Jamaica and Kentucky, is known for creating installations using highly decorated tapestries and rugs, casually mixing in ethnic codes and the latest trends. Ebony personally makes the elaborate fabrics, stich by stich, exhibiting a particular artisan ability. She is both a talented embroiderer and uninhibited director of her installations, which include mannequins dressed in an un-apologizing mix of western-style clothing in various traditional patterns from around the world, hoisted up on podiums covered in floral fabric. The crocheted rugs have various accessories, including shoes and bags, almost as if to reaffirm their domestic purpose. Their floral arabesques and sparkling beads show how no pairing is impossible when one has the courage to exaggerate with executive expertise.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
