This past September’s Maison&Objet hosted the Design network Africa exhibition, where 11 design companies featured works that spanned home furnishings to fabrics, ceramics to accessories and jewelry. For many designers, hailing from Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal, this was their first opportunity to exhibit their work outside of Africa.
Thomas Spanner manages the project that since 2011 has worked to promote lesser-known creative African talents. He is very much aware of the originality and worth of the products, as well as the possibility to increase the presence of African creativity throughout the international market. The refined selection of goods show a rich, mature approach to design, able to take the world of standardized merchandise by storm and quickly become a growing trend for worldwide consumers.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
