Fairytales are metaphors for life. The protagonists represent the personification of our dreams and our fears. They are often cruel, with witches and ogres that eat children, evil step-mothers that order their step-children to be killed, but almost always, they have a happy ending. Toads that transform into princes, and princes, with their kiss, awake sleeping beauties from their eternal sleep. They tell tales where good overcomes evil, and beauty over ugliness. Aesthetically speaking, fairytales symbolize the drawing out of beauty and wonder from the banality of everyday living. The classic iconography is filled with heraldic symbols, winged creatures, lush flora and humanized animals.
