Bags tend gradually to become a testing ground for artists specializing in accessories. Such is the case with Giancarlo Petriglia, designer, professor of accessories at the Institute of design Marangoni, holder of his own brand, a consultant for Moreschi and Piquadro and owner of the restaurant “The Small”, in Milan. This restaurant, similar to the cave of Ali Baba, houses an art gallery in the cellar. As if they were canvases of a painter, Giancarlo applies on his bags various figurative techniques, from illustration, to bas relief, to polychrome grafismo, created with a patchwork in fine leather of which he is connoisseur. The passionate Palermo artisans who make his creations define them as monuments: his more recent collections suggest that, at least in accessories, minimalism is over and that one should dare, both in colour and patterns.
