Saboten, for a dinner on the right strings
22 January 2015
26 November 2015
Commissioned by the petit h division of Hermès, emerging design collective Benwu Studio has created a fall exhibition. Set in Shanghai, it takes up the ground floor of Hermès’ flagship store on Huaihai Rd. (M), where visitors can explore their unique artisan creativity. Petit h, the Hermès atelier founded by Ms Pascale Mussard, gives materials a second chance, reinventing its form or use. Renaissance, recycling… a new life emerges from the alchemy of the elements themselves and artistic intuition. Benwu studio applies this design idea and used discarded leather of Hermès to create a scene of golden leaves in the exhibition. Founded in New York City back in 2011 by Chinese Designers Hongchao Wang and Peng You, Benwu Studio is currently based in Beijing and Shanghai, and exhibits expertise and experience in luxury products, furniture and interior design.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
