Lanificio Leo, dating back to 1873, is Calabria’s oldest textile factory. It is located in the mountain town Soveria Mannella, 800 metres above sea-level and home to only 3206 inhabitants. Emilio Leo resurrected the factory after it had already begun to fall into ruin, creating a company and museum. Today, 10 people work there, including Emilio and his family, and six artisans that know the ancient craft of wool working well. The historic structure is immersed in woods, and houses 20 monumental machines, including a textile mill, wool carder, jacquard looms, and even a spindle and wheel.
Their recent collection of woolen blankets, embroidered with a jacquard, abstract version of a lamb, demonstrates the ideal link between the company’s natural surroundings and textile techniques. The limited edition sheep’s wool throws celebrate the collaboration between Lanificio Leo and Studio Charlie, proof of the value that comes from mixing innovative design with traditional artisan knowledge.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
