Lollypop: Tasty Minimalism

Shanghai-based edition furniture brand Maison Dada has recently exhibited its complete first collection at local furniture dealer Area Living’s showroom. Founded by French interior designer Thomas Dariel who has set up his own design studio in Shanghai since 2006, Maison Dada reflects a sense of surrealism, unexpectedness and fun. The most recent works, such as Yin & Yang chest of drawers, wonderfully combine oriental and western aesthetics. In addition to furniture, lighting and accessories, Maison Dada also presented its first rug collection of six unique pieces based on the concept of the imaginary trip to Japan of the Dadaist and feminist artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Each rug is a combination of geometric shapes and traditional Japanese patterns, a result of the unexpected yet poetic encounter between pure abstraction and cultural influences.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
