The Portuguese company, Malabar, was founded in Oporto in 2012. They specialize in expert craftsmanship, and define their aesthetics as “emotive”. They do not skimp on ornamentation to surprise the on-looker with compositional patterns and expert execution. Their latest collection of wall and floor mirrors does not disappoint, using elaborately decorated frames made of luxurious woods and brass. Design lovers will be taken aback by the collection’s brash eclecticism. Malabar stems from the same city where purist architect Alvaro Siza has carried on his career, and the company demonstrates how modern design has expanded its aesthetic borders without giving in to classic styles, placing itself on the fence between “fear and love”.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
