Miguel Chevalier is one of the pioneers of digital art. The French artist was born in Mexico City, and has used computers as his expressive language since 1978. He believes that every artist must use contemporary means to narrate the era in which they are living, creating interactive works that take inspiration from the natural world and evoke the same vital movement found in every living thing.
Unicredit invited him to create an installation for the Pavillion in Milan’s Piazza Gae Aulenti, from July 25 to August 14. The space proved to be perfect for the enveloping, mutating experimentation of the colourful “Onde Pixel”. It was accompanied by the original music of composer Jacopo Baboni Schilingi, born in Milan, and currently residing in Paris. We walked on figures that moved, breaking into fragments and then coming back together again in different colours and shapes after we passed over them; the work came to life, multiplying itself, becoming dynamic and shape shifting.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
