In Milan there are luxury hotels, designer hotels, lodgings for every pocket and residences of all kinds. And then there’s Ostello Bello, a lone voice in the world of hospitality.
Ostello Bello is a youth hostel a short distance from Carrobbio, that is to say a stone’s throw from the Cathedral. Opened a few years ago by a trio consisting of an ex-lawyer, a director and a photographer, it continues the philosophy of “traveller backpacking” and offers affordable accommodation in dormitories for 4/6 people, but also double and single rooms for those who do not want to give up their privacy.
The atmosphere of this hostel is so relaxed that one does not seem to be in Milan. Contributing to this sense of alienation are the reclaimed furnishings – these have been collected by the owners through a request via Facebook – and the fact is that within the building Italian is rarely spoken. Perhaps it’s because of its hipster environment, or for the fact that there are musical instruments available to all, or maybe it’s about the library “book exchange” (leave the book you’ve just finished reading and take another free), but bar Ostello Bello has become in a short time a place much-loved by the young Milanese. The restaurant on the ground floor offers appetizers, beer, wine, and there is even a restaurant that prepares authentic dishes based on grandma’s recipes. A cheap & chic oasis in the heart of the city.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
