AD Nightclub, for an irreverent evening
16 September 2015
28 May 2015
The chain of London restaurants under this name, serves Chinese Dim Sum cuisine accompanied by herb tea and fruit cocktail. In all, nine restaurants are open in the capital, but the one in the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre is characterized by a refined interior design, oriental in its design essence but with a contemporary eye.
Forget the pot-pourri of vases and gaudy golden ornaments; at the Ping Pong the masterful work done by the design studio Superfutures in collaboration with Andy Martin Architects has instead bet on a few calibrated elements that create just the right atmosphere.
Such is so with the central kitchen counter, where chefs tinker and potter with bamboo baskets for steaming the food, all conducted under a light blue hood, decorated with waves, animals and characters. In addition to the main dining room, the Ping Pong has set up a corner for the preparation and tasting of traditional China tea; the beverage is prepared as an infusion and served in traditional teapots of cast iron. Finally, for those who prefer a cool drink, there are fruit coolers and spirits of Eastern provenance (sake, of course!), all served in a small room with walls of an amazing texture, similar to the skin of a huge – but friendly – dragon.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
