Specialized in the preparation of Tonkatsu (a traditional Japanese dish consisting of a pork cutlet fried in plenty of oil, accompanied by miso soup and coleslaw), the Saboten Hong Kong restaurant makes an impact not only for the quality of its dishes. Designed by 4N Architects, the Saboten is characterized by a pure and sophisticated environment, able to make customers feel at ease but made interesting by an inexplicably mysterious atmosphere.
The simple wood furnishings are neatly arranged in the dining room, but alone are not enough to give rhythm to the space. A series of movable walls, made of resistant nautical ropes, greet people at the entrance and lead towards the tables in the dining area, delimiting the different areas of the room. The same big cords are also used to create a separate room. Knotted on a metal structure that resembles a stylized pagoda, ropes give life to a separate area that ensures privacy without completely isolating the diners.
WHERE: Lower Ground Floor, Henry House, 42 Yun Ping Road, Causeway Bay, Hong-Kong

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
