Far away from the bustle of modern life, Venice is a world apart with canals, magnificent palaces and art round every corner. Visitors to the city can enjoy a more exclusive experience of the city by staying in the ultimate luxury resort JW Marriott Venice, found on the private island of Isola delle Rose, a 16 hectare paradise in the San Marco lagoon. The hotel originates from the elegant conversion of existing structures designed by Matteo Thun & Partners.
The buildings date back to the early 1900’s when a hospital and service buildings – including a church in Romanesque Revival style, a recreational club and a residence in liberty style-were built on the island. Surrounding these were lush gardens and a centenary olive grove. The clinic was closed at the beginning of the 80s, after which the structure and green areas were managed by an order of monks. Today the JW Mariott Venice breathes new life into this private “village”, just a 20-minute pleasant shuttle ride across the lagoon from Piazza San Marco. In addition to the hotel rooms and suites, the hotel boasts several bars and restaurants, a spa and a rooftop terrace with stunning views.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
