The collection presents the independent designer’s varied pieces, all produced with expertise, that range from purely industrial to artistically natural, pairing glass, precious woods and aluminum. His repertoire runs the gamut, from cars to pendant lamps, chairs to writing desks made of golden aluminum, to bicycles, all revealing an original and confident style that exhibits innovation without useless oddities.
Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, showing at the Grand Hornu in Belgium (from January 1st to May 29th,2016), the exhibition dedicated to the English designer Michael Young traces his artistic experience from a passage through Iceland thanks to his wife, an artist, from the country, to establishing himself in Hong Kong. The common denominator of his work is the use of aluminum, which he skillfully moulds along with other materials, much like a Benvenuto Cellini novello.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
