The surreal appeal of Hotel Exquis

The Royal Savoy Hotel, located in Lausanne, along the banks of Lake Geneva, has been restored to its original, Art Nouveau charm. Upon looking at its magnificent façade, inspired by a “grand chateau”, one’s mind goes to the iconic images of Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, and can imagine the stories of noble characters and rich travellers that have walked its corridors. Passengers on the Orient Express and royalty from Spain seeking asylum have stayed on the suggestive grounds. After five years of restoration, as well as the addition of a new wing, the Royal savoy is a five-star hotel, featuring 196 and other spaces for daydreaming. The hotel was intended to be astonishing from the very beginning, and the entrance alone has ceilings that are taller than 4 metres high, as well as a monumental staircase with mirrored walls. The internal locales complete the atmosphere with grand class, and include the Brasserie du Royal, that serves French food, the Lounge Bar that serves breakfast, and the Sky Lounge Bar on the seventh floor, with its panoramic view of the city and the natural surroundings.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
