Philosophers, writers, essayists, poets, anthropologists, architects, and designers have all dealt with living in its various forms, theorizing its central role in civilized man’s existence. Linings, containers, and casings hold the imprint of daily life, as Walter Benjamin noted (Passages de Paris, 1982 edition), leading us to consider an interior as a mold of its dweller, establishing an unalienable tie between the inhabitant and habitation. The same ontological theory was proposed by Martin Heidegger: being and dwelling. This said, exhibitions, presentations and installations dedicated to interior architecture and decoration are culturally relevant, as the “staging” of furnishings reveal the degree of cultivation and personality of the inhabitant. This past Salone del Mobile reflected on the importance of designers and interior decorators, manifesting as the “Stanze” exhibition, held in the La Triennale during its XXI edition (2016).
