MAD, the Museum of Decorative Arts in New York gives ample space to presentations of fashion jewellery, both vintage and contemporary. Among its recent exhibitions, accompanied by a luxurious catalogue book, it is worth drawing one’s attention to the collection of Barbara Berger, a wealthy, upper class lady, with a passion for jewellery of the famous designers. In her collection, animal-shaped jewels, in gold and enamel, with precious stones, make up the lion’s share. Remarkable figurations, in which insects and birds predominate, including a pelican with a fish in its mouth, but including also a pair of silver pins with coloured stones depicting a cat with boots and a pig dressed as a woman with a scarf tied under the snout, golden shoes and loose pleated skirt.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
