14 January 2016
The title illuminates the facade of the Grand Palais in Paris, which has hosted the luxurious retrospective of the Maison Luois Vuitton since February 21st, 2015. It has been curated by Olivier Saillard, the director of the Pallais Galliera, the fashion museum of Paris. There are 1.200 pieces that represent the brand from its debut in 1854 to the present, including trunks, suitcases, travel bags and various accessories, are on display in elegant wooden-edged glass displays. Olivier Saillard was admittedly touched by founder Louis Vuitton’s personal story; he went on foot from Jura, his home town, to Paris, where he thought his destiny awaited him. At 14 years old, the journey took him 2 years.
The vast repertoire, defined by a great variety of special models invented and expertly created to hold diverse garments and accessories, both feminine and masculine, have the purpose of traversing long journeys, by land, air or sea. In the past, journeys were long, and a trunk was also a piece of furniture that brought domestic flavour to a ship’s cabin or train’s compartment. There are exceptions to the rule, like library trunks, trunks that serve as writing desks, and trunks with many tiny compartments meant for each pair of shoes.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
