Antonio Marras’ next spring/summer collection was inspired Malick Sibidé’s black and white photography of his capital city Bamako, where the dancing crowds celebrated Mali’s newly granted independence in 1960. To recreate the joyous crowds, Marras concluded the runway show with sensuous models dancing to rock and roll. The dresses are long and fluid, or belted with tight bodices and swinging skirts, each mixing gingham, lace, embroidery and ruffles.
Several menswear looks dotted the feminine ones, with patchwork jackets, and striped or floral collared shirts and shorts. Antonio Marras recently stated in an interview, “I mix everything”. This collection testifies to this, combining fabrics, from gingham, georgette and broderie anglaise, to cotton and denim devoré alla Chanel. On top of all of these varied textures is embroidery, fringe, sequin application, and weaving.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
